Web Winged Stimulator
by Fred "Wes" Wesselink

Wes casts a lot of dry flies in the Tuolumne Rivers and this is one fly that he developed for just that application.  It is a sparser and more delicate version of Randall Kaufmann's traditional stimulator, utilizing "Web Wing".  This is an ideal late season, low water pattern.

In smaller sizes it imitates caddis and smaller stoneflies. In larger sizes it imitates stoneflies and hoppers.  Wes does not have a tail on this pattern but noted that one could be added. His favorite color for the Tuolumne is orange, but this fly could also be tied in other colors to match a specific hatch, such as yellow or olive.  Wes treats the entire fly with Orvis "Nu- fly", a pre stream floatant, and also treats with a gel type fly floatant periodically while fishing.
