Sheep Creek Special(Modified)

The Original Sheep Creek Special was originated by George Biggs, who tied it
with dark olive chenille for the entire body, and a more swept back brown hackle
tail. Some friends from Mission Peak Fly Anglers introduced me to this modified
version, which has since become my favorite stillwater fly for trout and bluegill.
I have also caught bass and carp on it. It is also a good fly for fishing
stillwater pools in rivers, and works great on the trout planted from Moccasin
Hatchery. I am still not sure what it is supposed to imitate, but know
that it is particulaly effective on any lake that has a healthy damselfly population.
Perhaps it mimcs a damselfly nymph, but it would probably be classified as an
attractor pattern not only for the peacock and insect green colors, but also
for the action that is imparted on the hackle and wing when stripped.
